1.
i woke in a place i didn't know or understand / i was scared and i ran / as my chest heaves in and out, there will be the sound / as my feet pound the leaves and my knees find the ground / the day after today / the day after tomorrow / the ache you can't seem to escape / the stillness of morning / the day after today / the day after tomorrow
2.
Let's begin / You are a means to an end / We need to remember the end / We need to recover the end / You are a means to an end / Describe everything that you feel, in every detail / Describe everything that you feel / The subject reports the sensation of falling / The subject reports a loss of control / The subject reports a sensation of dread / A cold that suggests it will never be warm again / Lie back and please understand / You are a means to an end / We need to remember the end / Lie back, let's begin again / You are a means to an end.
3.
What Now? 02:01
takes your tongue and makes it numb / it cuts a path and beats a drum / it splits the ground / turns it over like the point of a plow / what now? what now? we are made to be replaced / made to disappear and evaporate / swallowed up; hollowed out; marked down and erased. wood for their fires now / food for their plates now / blood for their gears now / what now? what now?
4.
long live what we forget / long live whatever's left / long live our dying breath.
5.
To Be Of Use 01:39
to be a ghost / to be a stone in the way between you and the thing that you want most / to be the rope that tightens in around your throat / to be the last words out before your lips close / to interrupt your breath and make you choke / to make you choke... to be a weapon, to be a tool, to be of use.
6.
Chase Scene 01:27
flames in the distance, flames in the distance / tells you that it's coming / tells you that it's here / flames in the distance, flames in the distance / breath as hot as brimstone / right against your ear / this is the place where we part ways. if we make it out alive / i'll meet you at the other side of this endless night / i'll meet you at the tree line / if we make it out alive.
7.
Want 02:34
what more? what more could you want from us? / what do you imagine is left of us to take? / what more? / what more can we be? / how much can we bleed? / how much more do you need? / your need does not define me.
8.
undone, unknown, unknowable unmade, unnamed, unnameable the thing that scares me most is the way you describe me the way that your eyes can find and explain and define me -- the void i become in your sight. unspeakable, unthinkable unstable, unbearable, impossible. and it might be too late. the thing that scares me most is that it might be too late. too late to exist outside what you desire, what you describe too late to exist outside the violence that it takes to describe the violence that it takes to describe the violence.
9.
what does it mean to still be? / a call with no echo, unheard and unseen / forced to listen to yourself as you breathe / and the sickening percussion of your tongue against your teeth / every moment's been drawn against a stone / made sharp, and then held against your throat / there's no such thing as inside / no such thing as outside / no such thing as dead, no such thing as alive / no such thing as now or then or never / and no such thing as again.
10.
it's obscene / the way your eyes travel the horizon / the way your mouth stays hung open wide / like some prize to which you're entitled / like it's already been decided... still in the force of their gale / stale air and space in place of all that we know / erased, cleared away, and rebuilt from mortar and bones / rebuilt from our teeth / consumed and remade from our souls / refused but for what can be used / refused but for what can be owned.
11.
paper thin, illegible and incomplete / half-erased and half-seen / paper thin, illegible and incomplete / half-erased and smeared across the page / forever never here and never not / forever almost lost and half-forgot / always incomplete, always incomplete, always incomplete / but never gone. never gone.
12.
do you think that you're safe because you're warm? / or that your comfort means something / or somehow can keep you from harm? / do you believe you'll be spared / when they turn on you, eyes wide open and teeth bared? / do you think that they care? / because the world that you've made is a monster / because the world that you've made is at your door / and you can hear it calling for blood and hungry / you can hear its stomach roar / and it's calling for more / from the beginning to the end and back again / it will always be calling for more / do you think that you're safe? do you?
13.
(there are so few of us left that remember; who can even imagine something besides...this. and i am more than what i've been made to believe, and we are all more than just things, or just...bodies. and i have to remember that i don't deserve to die. and i have to remember, and always remind myself that this is not just the way things are, because they were made this way. and this is not just the way things ought to be. and i'm afraid that this will all just die with me, and i don't want this to all just die with me, and i'm afraid that it will. there are so few of us left who remember. and i have to remember that this is not the way that the world always was, and this is not the way that the world has to be. i have to remind myself not to use the passive voice, and that violence doesn't just happen by chance. i have to remind myself that the world was made this way, and that i am more than what i can be used for. i have to remind myself to keep writing and to keep talking and to keep writing and to keep talking. i have to remind myself to remember. i have to remind myself to remember.)
14.
beneath the sound of the whole world coming apart / we're the creak of a door in the dark / the snap of a match being struck / the flicker of a wire being cut / beneath the hush of every breath in your lungs / there's a scream rising up / waiting to melt into air who do we trust? / no one is out there. beneath the sound of the whole world coming apart / we're the creak of a door in the dark / the cough of a gear getting stuck / the sigh of us all giving up. who do we trust?
